Regulation 47: Duties & responsiblities of overman

The duties of overman basically revolve around three things:
1. Proper working of his district
2. Saftey of his district

3. Discipline in his district

1. O/M shall follow the rules given by his superior officials.

2. He shall be responsible for control and charge to the mine parts assigned to him.

3.He shall follow the duties assigned by the manager

4. he shall always keep the tracings of his district on duty, and keep tracings up to date

5. He shall enforce in his district the provisions of the Act, regulations and orders.

 6 He shall give directions as may be necessary to ensure compliance with those provisions, and

to secure the safety of the district and the safety and proper discipline of the persons employed therein under the control of ACM and the manager.

7.He shall devote his whole time into the work on duty

8.He shall examine the every working place as far as possible or as far as required.

9.At the end of his duty, he shall give the important conditions and informations to the succeeding official of his district.

10.He shall give write a report for proper working,saftey, discipline of his district at the end of his district.

11. He has power to send out any person under his charge who disobeys orders, or violate laws.

12. He shall ensure that his subordinate official and competent persons follows their duties well.

FOR PROPER WORKING OF HIS DISTRICT

.He shall ensure that :

1. timber,brattice,tools,support material and other necessaries are kept in adequate quantity at convenient places.

2. ventilation devices such as air- cossing,stoppings,doors,brattice are maintained in good order.

3. there is adequate ventilation in his district.

4. Haulage tracks and Tramlines are properly laid,graded,ballasted, or otherwise packed.

5. In case of opencast mines, he shall ensure that sides of benches are properly dressed.

6. he shall ensure that Haul roads are kept maintained.

7. He shall ensure adequate lighting in the area of his control.

FOR SAFTEY OF HIS DISTRICT

1.       He shall make inspections and report required under regulations
2.       He shall see manholes are kept clear,safe,obstruction free and properly white washed.
3.        He shall see that all person are travelled by travelling roadways except officials,haulage attendant,and other person for the purpose of repair and examinations.
4.        He shall ensure that saftey devices of haulage like stop block,runway switch,etc are fitted and used properly.
5.       He shall ensure that a backstay shall be regularly used behind ascending tubs and adequate quantity of sprags are kept at suitable places.
6.        He shall ensure that if he finds any of the ropes, chains, signals, brakes, jig wheels and post or other apparatus in use in his district to be in an unsafe condition ,stop the use forthwith.
7.         He shall ensure that approved saftey lamps are used belowground.

In opencast mines, he shall ensure that

     .   Benches and OB dumps are not endangered

9.      All precautions are taken before blasting operations

  .     There are no any overcrowding of men & machinery.

1     All machineries and plants are operated in a safe & secured manner.
